The Summer Event Trap: Why Networking Without Follow-Up Is Pointless (And How to Fix It)

You're doing events wrong. And you know it. But you can't quite grasp why…

Ooh, summer - the sunlight bathing the green leaves, the gentle breeze of the sea rustling your hair... Who doesn't love summer? And who doesn't love summer events?

Well, me. I frickin' hate summer events. You're sweaty and awkward, and it's not just because it's a hundred degrees outside. Nope, nope, nope. It's because of all those conversations with potential investors, clients, and customers that end up... pretty much nowhere.

Why am I getting nowhere?

Sure, you had a nice conversation. You thought your summer love was about to bloom. You added each other on LinkedIn. Maybe even exchanged a few messages and some funny emojis. And then... nothing. Just the sound of crickets endlessly serenading through the summer night.

It sucks. But you know what? It's not their fault they ghosted you. It's your fault. But that's good news because it means you can do something about it.

I know, I know. I also would like people to just be thinking about me all the time while I watch Netflix, go to the park, and completely forget about them. But we're all the same. If we're not in constant contact with someone, we forget about them.

So how do you make people remember you? You remind them you exist regularly with... drumroll... content creation!

You need to show up on people's feeds. Provide engaging and entertaining content on a regular basis during a long period of time. Even if you feel you're shouting into the void (and you might be doing just that in the beginning), it's the only way to keep your potential customers and investors lukewarm.

Content creation is a long-term strategy, but it's worth it.

Here's what you can do:

1. LinkedIn posts: Share industry insights, tips, or behind-the-scenes glimpses of your work.

2. Newsletters: Keep your network updated with valuable information and company news.

3. Blog articles: Dive deep into topics relevant to your audience and showcase your expertise.

4. Video content: Create short, engaging videos for platforms like LinkedIn or YouTube.

5. Podcasts: Start a podcast discussing industry trends or interviewing thought leaders.

Remember, consistency is key. Set a realistic schedule and stick to it. Your content doesn't have to be perfect, but it needs to be present.

But what if you just don’t have the time?

If you don't feel like creating content, are too busy, or still prefer to watch Netflix and go to the park, here's a solution: hire someone to do it for you. That's where I come in. I can help you maintain a consistent online presence without breaking a sweat (unlike those summer events).

Need help keeping your network engaged with killer content? Shoot me an email at desiree@deeplevel.biz. Let's turn those fleeting summer connections into lasting business relationships.

Remember... after you meet someone at an event, add them to your network and keep being present with content if you don't want to waste all that money you spent on fancy clothes, transportation, and hotels.

Your future self (and your business) will thank you.

Happy sweating!
